UCU Men 9-0; UCU Ladies 8-2

Friday night we beat a team called Miracle by 9 for our ninth win of the season, to close out the first half of the season on top of the group of 10 1st Division teams.  The week before, on Wednesday (the night of the morning I landed back in Uganda after 2 weeks in the US), we beat Kampala International University by one, 60-59. 

The Miracle score's a bit misleading.  We came out strong, great pressure defense, forced several turnovers that led to easy layups and lots of ball movement when we had to slow dow and set things up.  We had a 28 point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.  I let some guys who don't normally play get some time in and they weren't all ready to play the intense defense we'd been playing and they had trouble scoring so the Miracle guys got way too close.  But it was a good way to finish the 1st half of the season.

Louise and I are taking a break at a nice quiet place near Lake Victoria and I don't have score sheets with me, but our ladies have won three straight games since losing to KIU while I was away.  Robert Mugabe and Geoff Omondi are running the team and handling everything and doing a great job--all I do is show up at games and take stats.  They beat last years champions, Lady Bucks, 69-66, coming from 5 down in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter to win.  The other two wins were relatively easy.  So the UCU Ladies are in 2nd place in the Women's Division behind Kampala City Council.

Louise and I are at this nice place near the lake because I'm trying to get some rest.  I had some weird left arm and shoulder pain one day last week and, after a ladies game, Louise drove me to the International Hospital of Kampala, instead of home to Mukono.  They hooked me up to an ECG and the results came back showing that I have some "abnormalities."  They gave me some medication and I have an appointment to go back and see a specialist on Thursday this week.

The doctor told me I need to get some rest.  Louise and I had already decided, on the way from the game to the hospital, that we're getting away and I'm taking a few full days off away from campus and everything.  I got an email today from our pastor in Savannah, Marc Robertson, exhorting me to "keep the sabbatical covenant with your God -- one day in seven is REST."  I'm gonna do that.
